Get out of the car after a long day's drive and explore the nature and outdoor activities that are abundant in Johnston County!  You will find leisurely strolls along the Buffalo Creek Greenway or trails for hiking, biking, and running at Clemmons Forest and Howell Woods.

For outings with the family, park facilities are available in all municipalities in the county with playground equipment, programs for all ages, outdoor sports activities such as tennis, basketball, shuffleboard and bocce...something for everyone's skill level.  For more information check facilites at all local Parks & Recreation Departments - many offer day passes for visitors!

To explore the nature along the Neuse River, canoeing and kayaking are available with the Neuse River Canoe rentals running trips from the Clayton area lasting 2 or 4 hours - call for booking details.

To enjoy nature's beauty choose the gardens at Johnston Community College's Arboretum or some hiking at the Flowers Hill nature area (best time of year is early May!)
